Malawi, despite its natural resources, remains one of the poorest countries of Africa, where remains a high rate of illiteracy and death from childbirth. Moreover, the spread of diseases like malaria, dysentery, malnutrition and HIV-AIDS cause the loss of many lives especially between 20 and 40 years. Therefore, the percentage of orphans is high and among these many are suffering from disability to mental retardation. The high cost of gasoline makes impossible to reach the hospital for the poorest.
The rehabilitation program for selected children consists in a 7-8 hours a day of rehabilitation in Mangochi Hospital to acquire the ability to maintain the upright posture and to walk with a support. During these 15 days children will remain at home, so a caregiver is instructed to follow his own child at home and proceed his daily rehabilitation. Subsequently the care process continues with monitoring by a physiotherapist of the district hospital of Mangochi.
The rehabilitation programs will impact on children's quality of live positvely, improving social and economic conditions of their families too.
