Nigeria plunged into economic recession in 2017 which lead to increase in human sufferings. This caused many mostly women to seek for greener pastures. They traveled by road across the desert to Libya with a hope of landing in Europe for a better life. Many were violated sexually and physically and subjected to unbearable and inhumane treatments. Many died, a few were rescued. Between Jan-Sept. 2017, about 1,228 victims of human trafficking of which 861 were unemployed women returned to Nigeria.
Many of these victims have become depressed and are currently suffering from various medical and mental conditions. This project will provide medical rehabilitation, psychotherapy and counseling for these women. With your support, we will train 75 women in viable vocational skills like hair styling, beauty and make up artistry as well as baking and event decoration to empower them to become self reliant and integrate them back into the Society. They will become a voice against human trafficking
If we rehabilitate and economically empower these 75 women, they will become self reliant and be able to cater for themselves and their dependents. They will not be pushed to migrate to Europe in search of greener pastures, they will not be pre-disposed to sexual and physical exploitations and abuse. They will become women of honor, running their small businesses with pride and dignity. They will become a voice against human trafficking and speak up against this increasing global menace.
