SEHER has initiated community based child friendly space with support of Community volunteers to prevent children from abuse and exploitation, in the Child friendly spaces children learn self-protection techniques through different learning based exercises, through videos and games. they are involved in creative based activities so they can express their thoughts, in case of any stress they can express it from their drawings and paintings,
children are provided with opportunity to communicate with other children to have a better socialization. parents groups of the communities are given sessions on monitoring child protection in their areas. following are the some activities conducted in Child frindly spaces.
children were engaged in painting, drawing, clay work, dolls making, flower making, puppets making, and bead works.
Imaginative: children perform dramas, role play and skits regarding health and hygiene, child rights, DRR
Physical: children play sport including Cricket, football, badminton, rope skipping to fulfill the requirement of their body needing exercise for the proper development.
Communicative: to enhance the communication skills story telling, story reading and discussion on different topics were implemented among children groups.
Manipulative: in this regard puzzles, building blocks were used. Facilitators create self made puzzles to create interest among children and utilize the locally available resources.
Traditional/ cultural activities
The children were very interested in cultural songs, dance and games which are locally played. They sing songs and participate in atten (cultural dance). They produce their own songs related to the CFS activities in pashtoo and urdu language.
Life skills
Children were educated about life skill to develop their personality in a constructive way. They have learned to manage anger, manage negative emotions. They were provided information about problem solving, decision making, creative and critical thinking.
Learning based activities
These were the learning based activities design to enhance the different psychological and social competencies of children. These were the games providing learning for them about unity, effective communication, and control on emotions, enhancing concentration, and decision making.
Reinforcement for disciplining and behavioral change:
A weekly chart containing every child name was displayed and on each day facilitator mark positive for the child who was observed having constructive behavior towards group members and peer. They were mark negative if use bad words or call names, fight with others, snatch toys or other material from children or break the rules of CFS. At the end of the week the highest marked child got a card or certificate of “best behavior”.
