Summary

PendoAfrica Recovery Centre in Kericho, Kenya is an inpatient rehabilitation facility for treatment of substance abuse and addiction. We plan to provide services to 60 youth per year that includes clients who come in for many different types of substances such as alcohol, marijuana, crack- cocaine, prescription drugs and sometimes, a combination of many. This project will incorporate an after-rehab curriculum that will help a client stay clean and successfully reintegrate into the society.

Challenge

The older youth become, the more they start to have access to drugs or alcohol which results in various difficulties such as mental and emotional health issues, trouble with the law, family problems, loss of priorities, trouble in school and the major one being unemployment. PendoAfrica Recovery Centre creates a safe environment where young people in Kericho can receive treatment and counseling for a positive personality change and the betterment of an individual.

Solution

Provide an after care and specialized enterprise development skills and training that will prepare clients for job acquisitions and at the same time allow for follow-up after rehabilitation for accountability thus reduce any chance of a client relapsing. Ensure there is family therapy that will help with reintegration with the family after the rehabilitation program. This project will create awareness of effects of alcohol and drug abuse not only to clients but the community as a whole.

Long-Term Impact

The project will rehabilitate 60 youth every year allowing them to rise out of alcohol and substance abuse addiction which will enable them to be healthy and productive members of their community. Young people need to live to their full potential, and this project is one of the ways we as PendoAfrica will empower them for personal, spiritual, academics, social, and economic transformation.
