This project will create a piece of evidence to reduce the stunting of 1200 malnourished under 5 years of children in the northern & southern parts of Bangladesh, providing Nutrition Education (NE) & demonstrations of nutrient-based homemade recipes through the Mother Support Group in the community. NE strategy will be based on the nutrition triangle model proposed by UNICEF i.e. food security, caring practices, disease control. Groups of mothers & caregivers of the children will be trained.
According to the preliminary report of BDHS 2017 stunting rate is 30% and undernutrition maps of Bangladesh 2012 Stunting rates are highest 47.7% in Bandarban district of Chittagong division, which is a hilly area; Sunamganj district of Sylhet division which largely consists of haor areas Stunting rates are second highest 46.1%. Undernutrition is the outcome of insufficient intake of energy, protein & micronutrients; Bangladesh is still one of the 24 countries with the highest burden of stunting
The children's mother and caregivers will be trained through MSG by nutrition education and counseling which will be increased the individual's awareness, knowledge, skills, motivation, caring and feeding practice by using locally available nutritious homemade food. The mothers and caregivers are also taught to share their new knowledge with their neighbors and relatives. When
The project will be educated 1200 mothers or caregivers directly to increase their knowledge and practice on the basic requirement of nutrition for children, benefits of diversified homemade food, frequency of feeding, density of a food, sanitation, and hygiene practice, etc. to improve nutritional status of malnourished children gradually which will reduce stunting of children and besides their families health, nutrition, and well being and neighbor will be benefited through MSG.
