The aim of this project is to build a Health Center that will provide primary health care to approximately 62,500 inhabitants in Katoyi - Masisi and surround areas. It should be noted that the nearest health care facility is at 50 kms. I addition to improve health care for all inhabitants in general, this project will reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in this area, where 80 % of women die on their way (rudimentarily and dangerously transported) to a nearest health facility to deliver.
According to the World Health Organization (OMS), DRCongo is one of the most dangerous places in the world for women to deliver. In Katoyi, women die while delivering due to lack of facilities, skilled staff, equipment, operating theatres and blood banks. People don't have access to more basic health care. Lack of qualified health care professional, training and infrastructure cripples the community. Not only will the women benefit but the community and future generations.
CAAP-TUJITEGEMEE would like to contribute by addressing the most urgent need. A health care system, building a HC, having a maternity ward, as a specialist facility for emergency on high risk deliveries, providing high quality care and safety for vulnerable women. This will reduce maternal mortality and provide additional services , such as delivery rooms, operating theatres, consultation rooms, pharmacy, laboratory and sanitation facilities.
The HC will contribute to a reduction of infant mortality, development of health programs and bring hope needed for women to improve their own lives and that of the community. Building a HC in Katoyi is an action that will benefit the whole community and the future generation. The research shows that public health and nutrition are critical components of primary health care and improvement of life expectancy. This facility will reduce rural premature deaths.
