HDF was able to provide de-worming treatment to malnourished children in the most marginalized communities. A total of 2,756 identified children were treated in the following program regions:
- Mardan: 473 children
- Tando Muhammad Khan: 908 children
- Rahim Yar Khan: 356 children
- Zhob: 15 children
- Karachi: 837 children
- Islamabad: 20 children
- Lahore: 32 children
- Muzzafarabad: 115 children
These children were identified through HDF's School Health Programs, and Community Health Workers (CHWs). The first round of therapy began with a dose of antihelminthics medicines (Albendazole and Levamizole) in syrup form. This was repeated 6 months later, and a vitamin syrup (Vidaylin M) was also given to children in between treatments.
CHWs administered these medications during their routine visits. Furthermore, the malnourished children and their families were provided with support and educational workshops coordinated by the Village Development Organization (VDO) for therapy.
The result of this project has been a success!
Out of the 2756 total malnourished children, 40% children recovered to a normal health range after treatment. Children that were severely malnourished improved their status by over 30%.
Through our Healthcare Program, 9 Community Health Centers operate throughout Pakistan. With your support, we have been able to deliver life-saving services in regions where healthcare is not accessible. We also have been providing health monitoring for children in HDF schools, and providing school lunches that are nutritional.
