Darfur remains one of the most unsecure environments for humanitarian aid workers in the world. There is an increasing threat of kidnapping, considerable incidents of carjacking and the presence of rebel groups. Now the nation also faces the unpredictable consequences of the January referendum in the South. The unstable security situation is a significant threat to aid workers based in Darfur. The RedR Team remains constant and loyal to its mission to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of aid workers by better preparing them in security and safety issues. Over the past three months, 91% of the 277 aid workers participating in our courses have been Sudanese staff from 34 local agencies, reflecting tremendous success on RedR’s commitment to building local capacity.
We continue to receive requests for training in avoidance of kidnapping and abduction, management of staff safety and staff welfare, security guards training and field travel safety. With the support of our funders we can continue this vital work and meet the needs of the aid community.
