Rebuilding to Remain in Palestine

by Rebuilding Alliance

Thirty families from Al Aqaba Village ask your help to build affordable homes on the land they own. 95% of this Palestinian West Bank Village is under demolition order by the Israeli Army. Families want to return home because otherwise their village will cease to exist. Families invested their savings to create their fair housing program. First 3 houses built, families moved-in. Now we apply for Political Risk Insurance. Please help them build more homes and make calls to keep them safe.

Refusal to approve Palestinian town plans or issue building permits is now de facto policy in the 62% of the West Bank solely controlled by Israel. Demolitions are a very real risk. The Israeli Human Rights Group received Israeli Army data in 2010 showing over 12,500 demolition orders against Palestinian homes, schools, and shops. Al Aqaba's lawyers say Demolition Orders never get reversed. Families who hold title to their Al Aqaba land are ready to build homes despite the risk.

Rebuilding to Remain helps Palestinian families build their homes on the land they own through democratic planning/design, village-issued building permits, and affordable Islamic-compliant revolving construction loans. The villagers invest their life savings to build homes. We invest in their future and minimize their risk by expanding grassroots advocacy and diplomatic engagement worldwide to keep Al Aqaba standing. Political Risk Insurance, a first in Area C, would offer extra safety.

Long-Term Impact

Al Aqaba's villagers have completed for their first 3 'Rebuilding to Remain' homes. Help build 27 more homes and keep them all safe. Villagers hope their homes will grow in love & value, give their town a future, and offer a neighborly model for peace. The success of their model can end Israel's ongoing demolition of Palestinian homes and help meet the planning needs of the 150,000 Palestinians who live in the 62% of the West Bank now administered solely by Israel.
