When women are economically independent, they can assist in managing finances of household and meaningfully participate in economic decision making at all levels. The more women are self-reliant the higher self-respect with less discrimination and healthier society. In continuation with the support to rebuild livelihood of covid effected families, the FST team conducted an assessment in the following areas located in Guwahati i.e., Hatigaon, Noonmati, Jalukbari, Beltola, Six Mile and Uzan Bazaar.
The team identified 30 women who belongs to the most vulnerable families and as per their requirement, support was extended to start their economic activity accordingly. The local contribution from the identified women becomes important in this project to ensure ownership and commitment towards sustainability. The women identified contributed 10% to 20% of the total value needed for the require materials.
The supported women will be handhold through various sessions that provides a safe space for them to learn, unlearn and evolve.
FST in collaboration with the Government departments will continue to create awareness on their rights and entitlements as a way forward in achieving the objective accordingly.
As an effort to rebuild livelihood of Covid affected families we are conducting community meeting at community level for creating awareness on available rights & entitlement for the community.
As part of International Women’s Day, we organised street play in Hatigaon area of Guwahati. The street play highlighted about equal wage for women worker. It was witnessed by local community and performed by FST team member and community member. Around 50 people were presented in the event.
