Reaching Out to Street Children in Ethiopia

by Retrak America

Retrak reaches out to vulnerable street children in Ethiopia, to provide them with food, medicine, shelter, education and everything they need to build a new life away from the street.

Across Ethiopia there are thousands of children living on the streets who everyday suffer hunger, violence, poverty and abuse. There are many reasons why children are forced to live on the streets - they may have been affected by HIV/AIDS, extreme poverty or family breakdown. They may even have been trafficked or abused. But they all have one thing in common - they want to move away from the streets and begin a new life in a caring family environment.

Retrak reaches out to these vulnerable children to help them build a new life away from the streets. We provide them with the food, medicine, clothing and hygiene which they desperately need. Beyond this, Retrak works hard to tackle the root problems that led them onto to the streets initially. Our priority is to return each child to a safe and caring family environment.

Long-Term Impact

We aim to enable 500 street children to move away from the street; for each child that is helped we estimate that three more members of the community (parents, siblings, teachers, neighbors) will indirectly benefit from Retrak's support.
