Re-Enroll Orphans in Education, disrupted by war

by Rural Women and Coordination-RWYC

Rural Women and Youth Coordination plans to re-enroll 500 orphans to school, train vulnerable teenage children in vocational and life skills, especially young mothers and children whose education have been disrupted by war, or hail from the poorest families affected by the war/orphans and other vulnerable children, to receive an education which facilitates life-long learning and acquisition of social and life skills for all and reduce teen pregnancies, vulnerability to early marriage, HIV/AIDS

total goal

The civil war in northern Uganda took over twenty years ,sent over five million people flooding into internally displaced people's-IDP camps, leaving orphans, widows, child headed families and other vulnerable children to the brink of death. Since people returned from the IDP camps, between 2008 and 2010, the follow up programmes were not only slow but inadequate or even not there for remote districts like Otuke. The poorest District in Uganda, 2017, over 80% still living below poverty level,

Education will not only provide orphans/ girls with a greater say in the future of their families, but reduce teen pregnancies, risks of early marriages and lower birth rates. The relationship between education and fertility is unequivocal, with more schooling leading to a rise in social and economic status and a subsequent decline in the number of children born into a family. Vocational and life skills will provide the 200 out of school children with ideas to transform, start earning a living.

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate 500 orphans who are out of school since the war begun, in primary, secondary and vocational and life skills to improve life, gain employment, reduce poverty, risks of teen pregnancies, HIV/AIDs, early marriages and a sustainable means to earn a living. in addition, 200 widows will receive training in livelihood to allow them to form groups/cooperatives to provide for savings and credit schemes, to provide them with capital and a share of profits for their members
