The World Health Organization declared child sexual abuse a public health epidemic in 1999. Daily, Nigerian Children are plagued with this epidemic and 90% of abusers are people they know. Access to emergency response is highly unavailable in Nigeria and most children victims bear the impact of sexual abuse and remain silent. This silence is fueling and recycling abuse. Working with other relevant agencies, this project will reach 5000 children with education and access to crisis support.

MediaCon provides crisis response to victims and their families through our Rape Crisis Center offering 24-hr confidential Helplines, Education, Trauma management counseling, HIV Counseling & Testing, Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV and Emergency Contraceptives (EC) within the first 72hrs of rape, Victim Advocates, Pro Bono legal aid, Psychosocial support and referrals for other medical needs. We work with first responders within government and non government agencies.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide education, comprehensive support to 5000 children victims of rape allowing them to manage and handle emotional and psychological trauma positively, be guilt free, not have unwanted pregnancy, reduce transmission of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections and perpetrator held accountable. Overall, the negative impact of rape is reduced and the circle of abuse is halted.
