of Activities
This
event was arranged at HRSP office Kahuta on April 28, 2012. Stakeholders from
Union Council Degwar, Notables from other union councils and line department’s
officials participated. CEO HRSP welcomed all the participant, thanked Global Giving
and Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy for provision of financial support in this
project. Poor people including men, women and children are direct beneficiaries.
This project will save the community of UC Degwar a population of 2400. From
cholera, Diarrhea and other diseases Thirty two stakeholders and other notable
participated in this session.

Bokhari from Union Council Degwar discussed
that 400 households of Degwar are without roof. Walls have been constructed but
there is need of CGI sheets for roofing for these households. Water born
diseases like cholera diarrhea and malaria are prevailing in Degwar. Patients
of Degwar have been suffering from malaria last year. Malaria section of Health
department is working there but is difficult for them to visit regularly the
remote area of UC Degwar. There is need to work on control of outbreak of this
disease. There is need of proactive attitude of people to cooperate in this project
for project sustainability and we will cooperate with HRSP for implementation
of this project.

Resource person of this session discussed on water management, waterborne diseases
and their control.
Water management:
Everyone is accountable for every drop of water. Use water in the way that its
tracks do not disturb the life of other. He said that malaria is due to mosquito.
It can be biologically controlled by conservation of the habitat of Dragon fly.
One Dragon fly eats 100 mosquitoes daily. Its nymphs eat mosquito’s more than
adult dragon fly. Don’ use spray for the control of insects and diseases on
vegetables and fruits. Chemical spry diminishes the population of birds. Butterflies
and honey bees are the pollinator of 40% plants. Due to presence of three
birds, Bulbul, Long tailed minivet and tit in any jungle, the insect which
damage and hollow tress are finished Kestrel (Basha) eats mouse and small
insects. He suggested stakeholder’s especially local community of Degwar to
collect data of previous 5 years that how many people died from water borne
diseases. Session was closed after open discussion on project implementation.
Conclusion.
Project will implemented with the cooperation of
project stakeholders. This project will be beneficial for number of men, women
and children of union Council Degwar and water born diseases will be controlled
after preparation of 100 selected houses with CGI roofing.
Trainer Abida Afzal welcomed the participants and introduced
herself and HRSP team. The training started with recitation of Holy Quran by
one of the participant Shamim Akhtar. The trainer started with the importance
of hygiene and cleanliness in domestic life for better health of family as well
as the whole community. She briefed them about the common diseased spreading
all over due to
careless attitude of people with their food, water, and the internal domestic
environment. Majority of common diseased spread due to usage of non hygienic
water and food. So the water has been given the top priority to be clean the
hygienic for use Aqua tab cleaning method was proposed by trainer to clean the
water from germs and bacteria. Following are the key points discussed during
session of better health, hygiene and sanitation.
During session different questions were raised by the
participants and answered by the trainer in a very convincing manner. At the
end, the participants thanked HRSP, Global Giving and Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy
to arrange training on such an important issue. “Now I am well awaredabout
hygiene and sanitation and will apply your suggestion in our homes, after all my
family health in very important for me, asked Fatima a participant”. The
training ended with concluding remarks by Syed
Mumtaiz Hussain Bukhari tanking the ladies for their participation and the
session / training ended with refreshment.
Initially survey
of three villages of union council Degwar was carried out by the HRSP (Global
Giving) team and collected house hold data of 14 people identified by the team
out of them two most deserving beneficiaries were selected.
