Project Report | Jun 28, 2013
RTI picking up steam

By Michael Feldman | RTI

World Arts Access is gearing up for RTI set to run July 15th and 16th. We are very excited to be working with Jack Straw Studios and recent new partners, the East African Community Services and the Vietnamese Friendship Association here in Seattle! Four partners for the price of one Global Giving event!

East African Community Services and the Vietnamese Friendship Association are holding a summer youth program with dozens of K-6th graders in the South Seattle area, extending their education well into the summer. Knowledge is, after all, a full time commitment. They have agreed to partner with us to serve art to a community of Seattle-based youth.

Like most things in the nonprofit world, being flexibility provides rewards. We have shifted a few components of our project and our new vision is even more engaging. RTI is now an artistic cultural exchange program that asks youth to show what makes them proud in their communities. Our project will involve generating original works and compositions on the above theme through poetry writing, visual arts, and music. Jack Straw will record our material to be compiled along with a collage created by the students. All these materials will be gathered and sent to FM Shabab in Yemen to show them what makes us proud of our community, we will then ask them what makes them proud of their own community. Through sending and receiving art back and forth, a cultural exchange presents itself, and a deeper understanding of others fosters fertile ground for empathy. This type of youth arts engagement is what drives World Arts Access daily and we want to thank everyone who supports us now and in the future.
