Hi Everyone!
We hope this update finds you well and enjoying the last few weeks of winter. The personnel of Nawal Estéreo have been hard at work continuing to provide coverage of local events and educational services to their listeners in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Since our last update 2011 came to a successful close and we have begun 2012 with a bang.
In the week prior to Christmas the entire radio sat down and participated in our annual evaluation for 2011. Each department in the radio was able to self evaluate and also be evaluated by their peers on the work they had accomplished in the previous year, what they would like to improve and proposed changes for the coming year. The week culminated in a presentation for various officials in Nahualá including representatives from city hall, the municipal police, the volunteer firefighter company and the entire board of directors for Nawal Estéreo. Roughly a month later the radio held another week-long workshop focusing on planning for 2012. The week was a success and each department in the radio has a well thought out plan for how they can continue improving our services to our listeners.
2012 looks to be an important year for Nawal Estéreo as we will also be celebrating our 50th anniversary. Planning has already begun to make sure this is our most successful anniversary celebration yet and that we are able to properly thank our listeners for 50 years of unwavering support. We look forward to providing more information about the activities to commemorate the event as November approaches.
The radio has also been keeping busy in preparing and recording educational materials for our listeners about disaster preparedness. In collaboration with the NGO CARE, members of the radio have been recording original dramatizations and announcements in K’iche to be played on the radio to give our listeners a better awareness on how they can prevent catastrophes in the face of the many natural disasters that all too often plague Guatemala. In the coming weeks the radio will also be participating in an earthquake simulation to educate participants about what to do in the event of an earthquake.
As always we’d like to take this opportunity to thank each one of you for your generous support. It’s because of your donations and continuing help that Nawal Estéreo is able to provide coverage of cultural events, important educational information and a strengthening of regional pride to the highlands of Guatemala. On behalf of all of us at Nawal Estéreo we’d like to thank you for taking the time to care. And remember, you can always listen to us online at www.nawalestereo.com. Our online radio stream is now also available on smart phones via the online listening service Tune-In.
