Help finish the home that Rachel Corrie protected

Dear Friend,

In my capacity as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Rebuilding Alliance, I am writing to personally thank you for your support. We are happy to report that the rebuilding of the Palestinian home that Rachel Corrie stood to protect, is 85% complete, thanks in large part to the efforts of concerned citizens such as yourself.

Due to repeated blockades of Gaza, this project took longer than we expected, and construction has stalled due to lack of funds. I call upon your generosity once again to help us finish this effort by August 31, 2006. The family is eager to move into their new home in time for the children to enter their new schools. When they do so, they will be incrementally safer away from the border with Egypt, now under daily shelling. Also, one of the brothers who will live in the home has been forced to give up his family's flat in Gaza City. The five members of his family must now share two rooms with other relatives-very tight quarters.

Why The Rebuilding Alliance? Why now? Completing this home, despite the siege of Gaza, can offer hope to Americans and Palestinians at a critical time when straight talk and solidarity is needed more than ever.

How do we know we can finish the home? Only the interior finishing remains - plumbing, electrical, windows, doors, countertops, painting. The builder assures us that, despite the siege of Gaza, he can move forward if he has the funds. Without the funds, the contractor is close to selling his truck for lack of work, due to 70% unemployment. We know our funds go where we say they go because our partners at Gaza Community Mental Health, the family, and a construction engineer who volunteers his time, all sign-off on construction prior to transfer of funds.

Your generous support has made a difference to this family, the Gaza community, and the network of people who care about Palestine, Gaza and human rights. I hope that you can find a way to generously support The Rebuilding Alliance as we complete this home and then eagerly turn to the next projects that we have already identified in the Rachel Corrie Rebuilding Campaign in Gaza and in the West Bank.
