This project aim at building a three unit classroom block for 150 children in Ghana Akura a highly deprived community in Northern part of Ashanti Region (Ejura) in Ghana. Our goal is to provide quality education for children of school going age between the ages of 5-15yrs in six deprived communities who lack basic schooling. Provide them with critical literacy support programmes for all the children who lack basic needs in the selected communities including teaching and learning materials .
Ghana Akura is made up of 6 highly deprived communities in the Norther part of Asante Region. The only source of livelihood is peasant farming with children leaving below $1 a day. The major challenges facing the communities are: 1. No classroom block. Dilapidated mud-house serves as a learning centre for children between the ages of 5-12 years. 2. children have to trek about 10km to the learning centre. 3. High level of school dropouts & teenage pregnancy based on cost & benefits of parents.
1. Site Selection- A maximum of 3km from the various villages, this will reduce the number of hours student have to trek to school; 2. Student per class- 45-50 per class from various villages, & classroom space is 0.7m2 per child for comfontability & easy interaction between pupil and teacher; 3. Quality teaching and learning materials to improve literacy and numeracy skills.
In the long run to invest in quality education to reduce the inequalities with respect to labour and as well as the increase the average productivity of the labour force and the over all growth of the various communities and the economy as a whole. Again it helps in better choices and reduce forces. ''No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure." EMMA GOLDMAN
