DIL Students on their way to school

The year got off to a strong start at the Jabri Campus.  Jabri is a remote area where people are mostly communicating in their local language. The teachers are trying their best to encourage children to speak English as much as possible. The principal took an initiative to address this in a meeting, encouraging the switch to English in class and outside the classroom. Following a daily routine, teachers were instructed to use words and sentences in English. During her daily observation, the principal provided any assistance as required.

The library period is being as held as scheduled in their timetable. In the new academic year, the school will have a dedicated librarian. As observed, the children are taking interest in reading stories and retelling these to their class and teachers.

All the teachers are preparing activity material as per lesson plan. The math teacher has developed a vocabulary tree for each grade and has placed them appropriately in the classroom. After reading a mathematical term, it is added on the math concept tree. In this way it becomes easy for the students to easily understand the mathematical terms.

And now the story of one of our students whose life you have touched:

Eisa is a 2nd Grader who was a quiet child. He did not mix with other children. His just wanted to pass the exams although he did not show much interest in the studies. He was under observation by the Principal and the teachers, who were concerned about his attitude, behavior and academics in school. The Principal called a meeting of all the teachers and gave them the task to work with the child to bring him to the level of the class.

As a result, the teachers gave special attention to him. They appreciated and encouraged his work and was made the leader of the group he worked in. His work was displayed in the class. He was also given the class responsibility which he easily managed. Getting him involved in such activities and encouraging him to socialize with other kids helped build his self-esteem. With the efforts of the teachers Eisa started taking interest in his studies, secured a second position in the class and also started to make friends more easily.

Thanks to your support, the Jabri School campus is headed into a great year ahead!
