n 2013 VAC-NET will continue to focus on providing Push me Once Piglet SEEDS as social a capital building project to women in post conflict northern Uganda. As the community rebuilds and recovers, meaningful community owned development programs are very important.
Not only will we provide Pig seeds to women but we intend to build their livelihood as well. For Gulu to have a healthy recovery, families must rebuild their income streams at a household level. Northern Uganda is a perfect location for Push me Once project; since is the center market for the region dominated by 80% cathorics who are the most targeted population and to newly young Southern Suda, with favorable weather also, so imparted with the knowledge and skills to keep the piglets will enable them to have successful income stream created for families.
To date we have trained 80 women and given out 45 pairs of Push me Once piglets to 45 women. In our first recycle 15 pairs have been recycled to more 15 new members, making the total beneficiaries to 55 women in just 7 month. Our average amount is $ 60 USD, for a pair of Push me once piglet which is recycled after 4-5 month and continue to reach more women in the community. But we need to co continue building their capacity and train more and that is where Global giving donors play an instrumental role! By donating to our program you are helping us reach more and more women with a lasting kick start to their lives. This project provide women with the means to take care of themselves and their families, send their children to school, purchase medicines, and experience increased household income which creates promotes decision making in their homes hence sustainable empowerment.
