About 2,193,769 Nigerians have been displaced of their homes and are taking refuge in the Internally displaced persons camps in different parts of Nigeria. These persons have lost hope of their livelihood and sense of belonging in the society and have undergone some trauma which could have effect on their physical, social, emotion and general well-being. With your help we shall promote psychosocial support for 5000 of them to enable them cope after the crises and live normal life.
The spate of violent attacks by Boko Haram insurgence and Fulanis herdsmen have displaced over millions of people of their homes, who are currently taking refuge in refugees camps in Nigeria. During and after crises events, it is common to experience a wide range of reactions and difficulties. These include grief, pain, depression, hopelessness, fear, anxiety, worry and guilt. Most of these victims are traumatized and emotional unstable because of their experiences. Risk behaviour may develop.
Psychosocial competence/support helps people regain abilities and build new competencies, even in very challenging circumstances. This promotes resilience, making it easier to adapt to changed living conditions. Strengthening life skills in focused ways build capacity to cope after crisis event. Potent life skills foundation shall promote psychosocial compence/support in refugees/internally displaced camps through intensive life skills education programmes/training.
The project will promote psychosocial support in the life of 5000 refugees/internally displaced persons, which will lessen violent behaviour, increase pro-social behaviour, decrease negative self-destruction, increase the ability to plan ahead and choose effective solution to problems, improve self-image, self-awareness, social and emotional adjustment, increase acquisition of knowledge, improve classroom behaviour, gain self-control and handling of interpersonal problems and coping with anxiety
