Team Rubicon has teams on the ground in Aboco in the Bahamas distributing humanitarian aid supplies to the communities of Treasure Cay and Cooperstown struggling in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane which stuck the Islands in early September. Teams from TRUK are conducting rapid needs assessments and working in partnership with NEMA, UNOCHA and the WFP to distribute aid. So far 6.1 tonnes of mixed aid has been distributed by TR to over 23,000 people across the Abaco islands.
The Bahamas has been devastated by the Cat 5 Hurricane which Struck the Islands last week. Huge numbers of the population (75,000+) have been left without food, shelter and water. Supplies are urgently needed for survivors whilst urgent repair and recovers operations are needed to restore essential service and restore essential services.
This project will focus by working in partnership with the international aid community (operating with NEMA, UNOCHA, and WFP) to deliver essential humanitarian aid supplies to the communities affected by the Hurricane - in particular the ' last mile logistics' to get aid through remote and cut off communities. Teams from TR UK by conducting urgent needs assessments and communicating those rapidly will build greater situational awareness to push aid to where its needed most.
This project provided immediate support to save lives and in so doing sets conditions for the wider long term recovery of the communities affected by the disaster.
