VAAFD remains committed to the textbook project, this has really been a long joining to achieve but gradually we are getting there. At times it looks like a very long road and challenging situation to come over but with the commitment from our team and supporters, we are sure that we will be able to get every class from K1 - 12th Grade at the Carolyn A Miller School the required books for their learning. We have been able to get most sets of the curriculum books. But donations has been so slow and difficult to achieve this project and we will even appreciate if someone can even do a collection of books outside Liberia that can be used by our students as well. The kids in Liberia are really struggling to get book for their lesson and we hope that this project help the kids at the Carolyn A. Miller School. Books are important resources for education that ‘s the reason VAAFD have made these resources a priority and have set up this project.
Many thanks to our partners, donors and supports we are appreciate every little donation you made to help save the future of the children of Liberia and world.
It's the VAAFD mission and vision to get ALL Liberians receiving quality, education and access to the best resources that will help to develop their mind. With the support and help of our donors, this mission has to be achieved.
There been a challenge for the students, teachers, support staff and their families at the Carolyn A Miller high school. The School has been broke into by theft and a lot of items including Students 21 sets of Jerseys which had the school name written on were taken away. Computer tablets from Map your world, textbooks, and notebooks and may other items. This has been so hard for us especially when we are just trying to recover from the Ebola crisis. We feel so terrible about this and students are so sad because these are items that were bought and sent for their learning and activities.
Our textbooks project is moving on slowly but it is our hope that our target will be met and all of our students will be served with textbook that will make their learning easy. Thanks for all of the efforts you continue to make by donating and supporting this textbook project. We are very proud of you and your family, since we started this project we have raised over $7,000.00 towards this and this has played a significant role in the operation of this institution. We are anticipating all of our students and teachers can get a complete set of textbooks each classroom from K1 - 12th grade full access to the West African curriculum. The textbook which is an important education material plays a major role in child learning and this will help students at CAMHS will be well prepared to take their end of year exams in line with other West African countries, thus raising the standard of academic achievement in Liberia.
We have received musical instrument from one of pen pal students and family from Laurence High School in California and this is also going to very useful to our students’ development, this will help them bring out their talents. We have finally purchased our first set of textbook for the elementary division to enable them have access to such important education material that will help them learn how to read and do their assignments on time. It is really a challenge for our students to do assignment and other research since it is very different to get the right educational required textbook in the school.
Our students were happy very happy when we brought in our first purchased of textbooks that will carry the school and students a long way. With the support and help of our donors, this mission is achievable. Always remember that you are making this happen without you, this will not exist.
There has been some progress made toward our textbooks project but there is more to be done. Since 2014 we targeted to raise at least $15,000.00 to provide textbooks to our students that which has served as a great challenge to the learning process of our students. Liberia as a whole it is difficult to for a student to obtain a set of textbook at all level of learning. Students depend fully on notes that teacher’ copies on the black board that which is very limited. Students in Liberia do not have access to textbooks and this makes the learning process very difficult for our students and that is the primary reason we came up with this project to be able provides textbooks to the students of Carolyn A. Miller School. In the starts of this project, we have been able to raised over $4,200.00 United States dollars and we used part of the said amount toward the renovation of the school building to enable our students to get back to school. Currently we have made an arrangement with a vendor who will be supplying the lower primary section of the school at the end of March 2016. It has been our desire to get textbooks for all of our students and teachers but donation has been very, very slow and this has put a lot of difficulties to this project and makes it hard for us to move forward. We continue to face challenges that are causing us not to meet our targeted funding for the textbook project but this has not deterred the efforts of the VAAFD team who continue to work and using the limited resources to keep this project alive.
We are always grateful to our donors and supporters who continue to support this textbooks project; your commitment to this project is highly appreciated. We want to continue to ask for your assistance so that we can get this project funded and our students will get the opportunity to own textbooks that will help their learning process which will help in raising the standard of academic achievement at our institution and in Liberia.
Textbooks remains a great challenge to Liberia educational system therefore we want to continue asking for your kind donations to enable us achieve the goal of this textbooks project; when the targeted amount or even half of that amount is raised it will help our school and the students be able to benefit from textbooks that will help to raise the standard of academic achievement in our school and in Liberia as well. Liberia remains at the bottom of educational system in this region therefore we are asking you to please help this nation to move forward with your support we can achieve our goal, Liberia and the world can has a great leaders, medical doctors, teachers, bankers, engineers and the best careers that can serve our world better. We are always proud of you for your love and support you continue to give these less fortunate kids in our world and we want to remain thankful to all of our friends, donors and supporters who continue to provide donation to this project and we hope with your effort this project will be fully funded. Please remember that every dollar / pound you donate makes a difference in the life of a child. Please do not give up on these kids they need you more than ever before. Please feel free to inquire about anything you may want to know as regard to this project, your donations and how it is benefiting those you continue to donate for. Always have it in mind that you are a key shareholder in this project and you have the right to inquire as how this project is going and you also contribute to the effectiveness of this project if you have got the time, we could be glad if visitation could be made on the project site.
On behalf of Team VAAFD, we say that we appreciate you and we want you to remember that without your donation we can continue this project continue to make a impact in the life of a child in Liberia.
The Ebola epidemic created a great setback for students, teachers, support staff and the entire families of the Carolyn A Miller high school. After the Ebola epidemic the rainy season and the power storm that took place in Liberia removed the entire roof of the school building and made it difficult to have the school reopen. We have to take a quick decision to carry repair since the building owner was in the position to carry on repair or assist in that process. We spent over $6500.00 United States dollars to have the school restored; this actually affected the funds raised for the school textbook project. It was our plan and desire to purchase few textbooks to be able distribute to our students but a great need arrive therefore a quick decision has to be taking to arrest the situation on at the time. With continue occurrence of the it slowing our project a little especially where it has been difficult to meet our targeted funding for the textbook project but this has not deterred the efforts of the VAAFD team who have worked around the of clock using the limited resources to keep this project alive.
Many thanks to the efforts of donors and supporters of the textbook project your commitment to this project is highly appreciate; we have raised $2,935.12 towards full sets of West African curriculum textbooks for each classroom. This is sound that we are well on the way to giving each classroom and each teacher to be able to full access to the West African curriculum. We however got few copies of the books for teachers in the senior division since the students are getting prepared for the West Africa exams in line with other West African countries, thus raising the standard of academic achievement in Liberia.
Textbook is a great challenge to Liberia educational system therefore we want continue asking for your kind donation to enable us achieve the goal of this textbook project; when the targeted amount or even half that amount is raised it will help our school and the students be able to benefit from textbook that will help to raise the standard of academic achievement in our school and in Liberia as well. We want to remain thankful to all of our friends, donors and supporters who have engaged with this project and donating funds. Every dollar / pound really makes a difference in the life of a child. We also want you to know it is your donation that is making this project possible without your donation this project will not move anywhere. Please feel free to inquire about anything has do your donation is benefiting those you continue to donate. Please remember that you are a shareholder in project therefore you have the right to ask and contribute to the effectiveness of this project if there is need and time site visitation will be appreciated.
We hope that this project (textbooks) will continue to be supported so that we can be provide to the school beneficiaries including teachers as well, Until then, we at VAAFD say that we appreciate you and we want you to remember that without donation we can continue this project.
