The entrepreneurial spirit is ever-present in Uganda's Acholi Quarter. The success of the solar cooking training has empowered two women to start a bakery. Esther and Santina are using the reflectors to bake cakes and are slowly finding markets. They started by slicing the cakes into small pieces, individually wrapping and selling the pieces. As word spreads of their cake business, they hope to start taking orders for special occasions, such as birthdays and graduations.
"Slowly by slowly," is a common expression in Uganda. It's a reminder that change doesn't happen overnight, but with consistent and steadfast diligency, great change can come.
This Mother's Day, consider honoring a special woman in your life by making a donation in her name.
For just $10, you can provide the means for improved health, increased hours of productivity at work or school, and a more hopeful future for a family in the Acholi Quarter.
Hope and a little help make all the difference. Together we can transform the community of the Acholi Quarter.
