It was a big summer for our GlobeMed team! Led by GROW Coordinator Udita Persaud, our Presidents Camille Cooley, Jimmy Wester and new 2016-2017 GROW Coordinator Aysha Salter-Volz spent six weeks at the Adonai Child Development Centre in Namugoga, Uganda.
Although the team faced their share of hardships in the beginning of the trip, by the third week they were all settled in and were out working in the field. The research conducted by our team was ethnographic qualitative asset based research in order to gain a broad understanding of the health needs of the community as well how people access care based on where they live. The data collected was very interesting and the GROW team received a lot of help from their contacts at the university in Kampala. The community at Adonai was incredibly welcoming and most days of the week the team spent 8 hours a day working out in the field conducting interviews and listening to people’s stories. Our co-president Camille’s favorite part of the trip was when they were able to present their findings to community leaders because “they were able to give us their own ideas and provide us with the insight we hadn’t heard yet through interviews.” For more information about our GROW team’s trip please contact us at northwestern@globemed.org and stay tuned for the Fall report for more information regarding the trip and other exciting endeavors!
