60% of the 685 children UBECI works with in the markets of Quito are girls. This alarming statistic means girls are less likely to attend school than boys and therefore have fewer opportunities later in life. With the Global Giving 2019 Girl Fund Campaign, UBECI will: work with psychologists to improve girls' self-esteem and work to change the community's mindset to focus on the importance of women's education and equal opportunity.
National research established that in Ecuador, 70% of the children working in the markets in Quito are girls. Indeed, these girls will not have the opportunity to be educated, most of them get married at a young age and have kids really early. Therefore, their life goals and dream will be forgotten. It is an issue of equal chances that we are facing with these girls because their future has already been settled by their parents, entourage and the patriarchal society.
With your donations, UBECI will focus its energy on conducting workshops, conducting psychological evaluations, re-establishing gender equity approaches, schooling or education for girls, creating opportunities for girls, preventing violence to girls and women, encouraging emotional and physical care of the girls and their mothers.
The goal is to change the communities' mindset and focus on the importance of education for girls. UBECI strives to provide opportunities for at risk girls by implementing changes in favor of equality. Because mothers have a crucial role in the development of the future generation, UBECI wants to incorporate mothers, grandmothers, and future mothers in the center of the change by educating them as well.
