Science Library Books ready to go!
Science Library Books ready to go!

We love the moment when we are surrounded by beautiful books and have the chance to inscribe inspiring messages that will reach children on the other side of the globe!  In our office these past weeks, our greenlight for girls science team, a group of special students, have been diligently putting together our next Science Library that will be shipped to our upcoming events in Africa.

These young girls gather donated books that range in every "science"-related topic, from discovery, nature to how things work, in any language and for various age groups.  They are designed to start or contribute to local schools and orphanages that need learning resources, especially for the young children in the community, where printed books and access to information may be scarce.

These past months, the team has enjoyed writing messages to encourage the future reader to find enjoyment in learning.  These books are now being put in place for future events in Nigeria, Ethiopia - as well as other areas in the world, Delhi & Mumbai in India where our organisation is going next!

You should see our office.  Shelves and shelves and boxes and boxes of treasured learning that has been passed on from our young girls around the world to help another less fortunate.  We ask the participants, young girls from the ages of 11 to 15 (and their parents), to bring a book or two to donate when they arrive at one of our greenlight for girls' events.  Now with the most recent events behind us, our shelves are filled again.  The girls have left inscribed books with personal messages of support and encouragement to a child in another part of the world. They have donated their favourite stories of science, discover, nature, languages, health - everything to make a science library come to life in another part of the world.

Where are these books traveling to?  As you may remember, our last shipment traveled to Kinshasa - where we have the chance to also conduct events with local girls to encourage further studies and learning, especially with science.  With your support - and a bit more - we'll have enough funds to ship these books to an amazing school and orphanage in the Cameroon.  The location for our very first science library, we learned that many of these children do not get a chance to study science until they are much, much older - so they asked is if we could help them learn at the earliest of ages to spark interest & understanding by providing books.  They are ready for more - and we have them ready to ship!

Next - we are beginning our work for greenlight for girls in Nigeria & Kenya - and we will be looking for communities in need to send our next Science Library so.... stay tuned!

Another science library has left the office and on to an area of the world that needs it most!  Thanks to your generous contributions, we have managed to package up a number of books that are now en route to the Democratic Republic of the Congo!!

With our g4g Ambassadors from the Congo along with our HQ team, several boxes have been put together to benefit local schools and orphanages in the Congo.\

The boxes have left the g4g headquarters thanks to the donations from all of you, from local schools wishing to donate their books and from greenlight girls in our recent events who wish to share the books that they have grown up with.

In the boxes includes -- several language learning books from French to English, discovery books of nature and science, chemistry learning, what makes things work, and lots more examples of science, technology, mathematics and engineering skills building that we have been able to collect and pass on.

Soon, the book shelves will be filled in local community centres and orphanages in the Democratic Republic of Congo - thanks to all of you!

Books ready to ship!

Our office is again inundated with more lovely, colourful science and math-related books!  Thanks to our partnerships with schools and for our greenlight girls, we have several boxes of books in English, French & Dutch that are ready to be shipped out.

Where are they headed to?

The funds that you are providing will help us send these books to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a small science library installation at one of our partner schools.

How are we getting the books ready?

For the past few weeks and for the next few, we have our greenlight girls' interns working on several projects in our office.  Our interns are young students of all ages who wish to contribute to greenlight for girls by working on initiatives to reach children around the world and encourage them to study science.  One of the projects is our Science Library -- so the girls are helping to inscribe our newly donated books with inspiring messages for the children in the DRC to see.

What is next?

Our office will be a buzz of activity in these coming weeks as we get ready to ship them to the school in the Congo.  Thanks for all your help to make this happen!!

Anything is Possible in Cameroon
Anything is Possible in Cameroon

Our office is filled once again with beautiful science books ready for our next science library!!

Thanks to the latest greenlight for girls event in Brussels and local donations, our headquarters is now stocked full of books that we can't wait to send to children across the globe.  Your donations to this project help make this possible to ship these learning resources from one part of the world to another.

Our science libraries, already started in Cameroon, South Africa and Senegal, are ready to go to Uganda - and also in Asia to an orphanage & school in the south of India.  Our next plans are also to start a library in Morocco.

At our latest events, we have collected more than 80 books in which our young greenlight girls have inscribed with inspiring messages in the front cover for the girls and boys who will receive them.  These books cover all subjects in science - topics which will help the students wish to discover the world around them.  The books are mainly aimed for ages less than 15 years old and we have collected books in English, French and Dutch in this last event which will help us send languages needed for various countries.

Because of our connections in these schools, communities and orphanages that have received our science books, we have enjoyed engaging them in our latest activities.  We have attached the photos from our Anything is Possible campaign in which we asked children from around the world to communicate this phrase in their language to instill confidence in their future.

Thank you for all your support - and look forward to our future news of where our libraries are traveling next!
