The Feed-A-Child project was introduced into the educational program's package following our findings that some of the children barely eat any food before coming to school and we know that an empty stomach will not corporate the brain to assimilate studies appropriately. Therefore we started providing a free meal daily, during break hour, in addition to the free education provided to over 700 children of the School Without Walls
Due to the living and economic condition of the poor, underserved and internally displaced persons, they cannot afford a standard meal for their children. Therefore, it is difficult for a hungry child to pay attention and learn even if education is provided to them freely. Also, various common sicknesses are usually associated with hunger and malnutrition in such communities.
Principle 12 of the UN Guideline and Principles states "that all internally displaced persons have the right to an adequate standard of living. At the minimum, regardless of the circumstances, and without discrimination, competent authorities shall provide internally displaced persons with and ensure safe access to (a) Essential food." Following this guideline, we provide the children with 1 nutritious meal every day for proper development and assimilation of knowledge.
The daily meal for 700 children not only enhances good health, development and assimilation of knowledge but also encourages more out of school children to attend our learning centers where they get taught for free in other to give them a chance for a brighter future.
