Solidarity Action for Bees Protection (ASPA asbl) plans this work to inform and raise awareness to 122 113 individuals from the community surrounding Virunga National park, on the bees importance and protection mechanism in Democratic Republic of Congo, to reduce treats and prevent its extinction. It involve the capture of 59 identified colonies in risk of being eliminated by population as they are a problem to populations because they have settled in some houses and public place.
Due to insecurity in villages, the population surrounding Virunga National Park in Rutshuru Territory, have increased and puts pressure on the park and its have a weak knowledge on bees importance. It's noted, Between June and July 2017 the loss of 267 bee colonies due to honey hunting, Bush Lights, etc. and others 59 identified colonies still in danger within houses and public places. By undertaking this work we aim to reduce the treats on bees and maintain the environment balance.
The project will organize campaign to sensatize local community on bees importance and community mechanisms for their protection in order to reduce threats to bees. It will train representatives of community groups to increase theil skills and involve them in outreach activities; and organize the capturing activities for the 59 identified bees colonies in conflict with populations, to protect them and keep them in the nearest community beekeeping farm for their benefit.
The Project Will reduce the mortality rate of bees for the conservation of ecosystems and maintain climat balance through pollination and contribute to reduce treats made to the Virunga National Park by honey hunters, Poachers and local population throught sensatization and awareness raising to 122 113 individuals from the community, so that they can take care and protect bees in the environment for sustainable management maner of ecosystems.
