Protect 2500 youth in contracting HIVAids in Ghana

$184 $14,816
Raised Remaining

Recent News paper reports indicate that, there are wide spread HIV/Aids cases in areas we operate in Ghana. We use sports particularly football to educate the youth to test their HIV/Aids status.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Teenage pregnancy cases among young adolescents (age 10 to 14) are gradually increasing, compared to cases among older adolescents (15 to 19) which are reducing. According to a National Health Facility Data, teenage pregnancy cases among younger adolescents increased slightly in 2009, with 2,269 cases being recorded, as against the 2008 figure of 1,616. This is in direct relation to increases in the HIV/Aids positives showing more and more young teenagers are not actively engaged in prevention

How will this project solve this problem?

With support of Health Mininstry, parents and religious leaders, using football activites, we will educate young people on their reproductive health. In addition, special football matches will take place in communities to test their HIV/Aids status.

Potential Long Term Impact

That at least 2000 of our beneficiâries will understand that, knowing their HIV/Aids status and living according to prescribed methods would lead them into productivity thereby contributing to growth and prosperity. People will access counselling.
