Dear Friends:
Today is International Women’s Day—a global holiday celebrating the achievements of women worldwide since the early 1900s. International Women’s Day recognizes the many contributions that women make to society, but also highlights the distance yet to travel before there is true equality between women and men.
Many of you are familiar with the Bahá’í quote that inspired Tahirih’s logo: “The world of humanity is possessed of two wings: the male and the female. So long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength, the bird will not fly.” It is in this spirit that, while Tahirih’s work often focuses on protecting individual women and girls, our vision is bigger—we want to build equality between women and men so that humanity may fly.
Thank you for being a part of our vision. And, thank you for reflecting on the importance—to humanity as a whole—of achieving this important goal on this special holiday. Happy International Women’s Day!
Warm regards,
