This project will protect 200 low income families in the outskirts of Hanoi from the dengue fever epidemic facing Vietnam. By providing households with dengue fever prevention packs ( mosquito net, repellent, insecticide spray, detergent) lives can be saved. The project also raises community awareness about dengue fever prevention and diagnosis via training, information sessions and leaflets. As a grassroots org TYM has daily contact with members & has the know how to implement this project.
There are currently 100.000 people in Vietnam infected with Dengue fever as the country faces the worst epidemic in 10 years. The mosquito-borne viral infection causes a severe flu-like illness and, sometimes potentially lethal complications. Low income families living in the outskirts of Hanoi are some of the hardest hit being uninformed about simple prevention methods and the potentially fatal risks, and lacking access to primary healthcare services for diagnosis and treatment.
TYM will provide and educate families using dengue fever prevention packs (nets, repellents, detergents, flyers), as well as healthcare services to infected families. Women who head low income households will be trained in dengue prevention and disease diagnosis by TYM's community workers. The TYM team have extensive experience in providing grassroots training for low income women in finance, health, literacy and business.
The project will educate 200 women allowing them to prevent and recognize dengue fever, which will protect their families from the illness and prevent the spread of the epidemic in their communities in the future. TYM will use its network of Members and community workers to create awareness about the risks of dengue and other mosquito borne diseases. With 25 years experience, TYM has the necessary community ties and the capacity to promote this project and generate long-term impact.
