As part ofthe promotion ofCongolese women, AFEM SKhas just completeda research on thepolitical participationof women inShabunda territory we are in the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC. This survey wasconductedin Shabundacenter, Nkulu, BagaboandBangoma. The Association ofMediaWomenin South Kivuaimsto developan effective approachthat willtouchthe real causes ofcritical positioningof women indemocratic institutions andin other areasof community life. The DRC is among the last countrieswhere women arerepresented instate institutions.
According to thecoordinatorChouchouNamegabe, AFEM isproposed to achievea participatory diagnosisin the communityby organizinga survey ofdifferent social strataas allsectorsof community lifearemarkedby an imbalance ofgender relations. For her,this investigation hasled tothe social actorsat the heart oftheir developmentby makinga thorough analysisof the problemthrough individual interviewsandfocus groupbythen. Fourcategories of actors aretargeted, including those ofpolitical leaders andcivil society, women and menat the base.
Shabunda territoryis selectedbecause of itsincreased vulnerability toarmed conflictand otherdramassuch as sexual violenceandgender-basedviolence. Itisthe land thatknows nointerventionin mostorganizationsdue toits remoteness andinaccessibility. AFEMlooking forways and meansto achievefavorableconditions for women; at the national levelasat the local level.
