This project trains community radio groups in producing radio broadcasts and four months of educational programming produced by communities and edited by the South Kivu Women's Media Association.
Journalists in eastern Congo face a hostile environment and AFEM aims to make communities engaged in educational media by training groups in basic radio production. AFEM then edits their emissions for broadcast on local radio stations. By engaging rural communities and promoting the role of women in the media through professional development, AFEM creates media that is grassroots and relevent to the issues eastern Congo faces today.
AFEM will train women's groups from rural areas in basic radio production and will broadcast 12 emissions per week on community radio stations. Women journalists will also receive professional development training.
This project will educate tens of thousands of people on how women's rights is a benefit to the community and increase the professionalism and capacity of female journalists in eastern Congo.
