Promoting safe delivery; is a project that supports access to proper healthcare services for expectant mothers and their new born babies in Aswa County, Gulu District, Uganda. This project therefore conduct community health promotion through the use of the village health teams and aiding mother access facility delivery through providing voucher to every expectant mother for motorcycle transport to the nearest facility during labour or any health complications.
The northern region of Uganda where Gulu district lays has suffered a protracted two decade civil unrest which ruin the health care system and the socio-cultural practices promote home deliveries. Women especially pregnant mothers and their new born have suffered the highest mortality in the country; Infant mortality of 44 per 1,000 live birth, maternal mortality rate 357 per 100,000 birth, under 5 years death 102 per 1,000. Proportion of skilled birth attendants only 57.4%.
Promoting Safe delivery project will : Identify and Training 250 Village Health Teams (VHTs) to conduct community health promotion activities on Maternal Neonatal and Child health and conduct follow up of clients for appointments. The project will save a considerable 1120 number lives' of innocent mothers and their new born and hence production of a generation of useful citizen that will create growth and development of the nation. The health outcome of skilled health services will contribute reduction of maternal and child death and hence increased socio economic thrive of the nation, since quality health is equal to health economy of a nation.
