Challenge

By the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011, children's education in the area is facing considerable degree of challenges as learning and playing opportunities were severely damaged; school fields /playgrounds are now used for temporary housing complexes, parks became reconstruction bases. Many school programs can't be delivered due to severely damaged educational facilities and equipment. These situations have taken away children's quality learning opportunities.

Solution

To support rebuilding local communities and learning/playing opportunities for children in tsunami-affected areas, through the following activities. 1. Provide safe meaningful learning/playing opportunities for children in elementary and middle school after school hours 2. Provide safe learning opportunities for children under age 6 and build communities for mothers 3. Provide special learning opportunities for children in conjunction with individuals/organizations that have contents/methods

Long-Term Impact

The direct benefits of this project will be recovery of quality, safe learning opportunities for children under age 14 in Ishinomaki City and his/her family. As the project will also contribute rebuilding communities both within temporary housing complexes and broader communities tied through sports, young and old local citizens will also gain the benefits from the project.
