The overarching goal of the Trust is to facilitate, support and enhance the wellbeing of Kaikoura's unique ecosystem, by implementing a wildlife hospital centre. The Trust is focused on a solutions based approach to enable capacity building, resources and services which assist threatened wildlife. Our mission will produce long-term environmental benefits, by enabling native bird care in a biodiverse hotspot, marine mecca, global seabird capital and site of international importance.
Kaikoura is a biodiversity hotspot and marine mecca, with high seabird patient numbers due to species diversity and human related impacts. As a global seabird and marine mammal capital, the region is a site of international importance. Injured and ill wildlife is an animal welfare issue and ethical concern in regards to suffering, with lacking services in a small rural community and geographically isolated region. Wildlife rehabilitation is unfunded conservation work in New Zealand.
Facilitating infrastructure, resources and services to enable emergency care and rehabilitation of unwell wildlife to meet an unfulfilled need. The Trust is focused on solutions to create long-lasting change, benefitting our at-risk wildlife, environment, and people. A community service that brings people together to assist wildlife in need. Aiding wildlife through conservation action, education, and inspiring the global community to support our unique marine ecosystem.
Wildlife care focused on animal welfare and ecological sustainability, to halt species declines and biodiversity loss by stabilising and restoring populations. Every individual animal matters, as do populations, species and ecosystems. An ethical framework that recognises the intrinsic value and welfare needs of threatened species in global biodiversity hotspot. Aiding wildlife through rescue, treatment and rehabilitation; habitat restoration (e.g. penguins); research; advocacy; and education.
