Dear Project of the Month Club Member,
In northern regions of the Peruvian Amazon, only 3.25% of Indigenous students complete higher education. Those who do want to pursue a university degree face long journeys to the city of Iquitos, cultural inequity, financial barriers, and more—including the continued impacts of COVID-19.
Our February Project of the Month, Instituto Chaikuni’s Support Indigenous Students in the Face of COVID19, is working to change that. A GlobalGiving Climate Action Fund leader since 2019, Instituto Chaikuni supports 120 indigenous youth belonging to 15 different Amazonian communities. By helping these students reach their potential while strengthening their cultural engagement, this project ensures that they have the tools they need to become successful advocates for Indigenous culture—and stewards of the Amazon rainforest they call home.
Communication coordinator Milton Lopez Tarabochia shared that funds from the Project of the Month Club will go to a number of vital programs, including mental health support, intercultural communications workshops, and trainings focused on sustainable agriculture.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity!
Warmly,
Donna Callejon
