This project will build a children development center in Rivers State Nigeria where disabled children of poorest parents will get rehabilitation inform of physiotherapy and inclusive education to ensure they don't miss out in early childhood education. It will source and admit 25 indigent children from the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Any child that is mobilized will be re-integrated into his family to create space for another.
In Nigeria 7m children with disabilities are out of school according to UNICEF records and do not have access to basic needs of life especially basic health and education. There are no public centers for rehabilitation in Nigeria and also the exclusive and inaccessible nature, structure and system of virtually all primary and secondary schools in Nigeria with poorly staffed, poorly equipped and outdated special schools makes it difficult for children with disabilities to learn in school.
The project will provide, physiotherapy in a child friendly treatment rooms, inclusive class rooms, and hostel facilities, for 25 children with muskuloskeletal disabilities so that while the children are rehabilitating, they are learning at the same time. Early childhood education is important for all children. This project will provide space to launch its inclusive playground in the future for functional plays to create equal opportunity for all children in play
The project will eventually enhance the quality of life in terms of health and education status of 25 children annually. When a child gains his independence through enhanced mobility, gets his early education in an inclusive school; that child will have a healthy self esteem and in turn grow up to make meaningful contribution to the economy of a developing country. This eventually reduces the effect disability place upon children and their families.
