The Greater Accra Metropolitan Area with a population of 4 million is undoubtedly ranked the 11th largest metro area in Africa. The menace of littering affecting other regions of the country is not different here. Littering and illegal dumping of domestic waste in all forms has become a source of worry for government and city authorities. Project Anti-litter is using students as change creators to deter the litterer from littering to shield inhabitants from environmental and health hazards.
Project anti-litter will engage and educate 1000 elementary students in greater Accra on the issue of Litter and encourage them to take positive actions that will beautify their school compounds and community. The net result is to influence litterers to change their behaviors. The project will undertake activities such as cleanup campaigns and waste bin placement for segregation.
Project Anti-litter has the potential impact of changing behaviors of litterers and making them believe they would be noticed when engaged in the act. Project Anti-litter will also provide a baseline information for future projects on littering.
