Challenge

Tepetzintan currently lacks educational spaces for high school students, which generates the interruption of the educational process of young people and migration to cities to access better opportunities. Given this scenario, the students of the community took the initiative to design and build their own school with the intention of expanding their possibilities and improving the development of their community.

Solution

The project, which was generated by the young people themselves and their families from participatory design workshops, has the vocation to train students in trades that allow them to develop in their own locality, rescuing arts and crafts, traditional farming systems and the generation of productive projects such as jams, preserves, embroidery, traditional medicine, etc.

Long-Term Impact

Currently, students have completed the first stage of the project (a classroom + bathrooms) and several workshops have been given to more than 70 students, managing to train two generations of students so far. In the long term, the project will function as a Community Training Center that allows the inhabitants of nearby towns to access the educational program through workshops, which will allow having a greater impact at the regional level, reaching more than 6,000 inhabitants.
