PASA's 23 member wildlife centers rescue orphaned and injured chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos, and monkeys from the illegal wildlife trade. Donate to PASA's Emergency Rescue Fund and help free these amazing primates from cruel captivity. Give expert care and a second chance at life to these extraordinary, intelligent animals and save humanity's closest relatives from extinction.
Hunting and habitat destruction take a huge toll on Africa's primates. Nearly 40% of all African primates are threatened with extinction. Primates are sold as bush meat, and young animals are sold in the illegal pet trade. These babies are the byproducts of bush meat - too small to eat, after their families are killed they are sold as pets. All gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos are ENDANGERED or CRITICALLY ENDANGERED, and unless human behaviors change they may go extinct in our lifetime.
PASA members rescue and rehabilitate over 3,400 primates and wildlife. The Emergency Rescue Fund allows sanctuaries to act immediately to rescue orphaned and injured chimps, gorillas, bonobos, and monkeys. Our members also address root causes of threats to primates, and engages and empowers local communities to protect wild primates and forests.
PASA members not only rescue primates from the illegal wildlife trade, they also develop sustainable livelihood projects to give community residents a viable option to habitat destruction, or hunting and selling wildlife. Our education programs and trainings empower new conservation leaders in Africa. Working with local communities, PASA addresses the illegal wildlife trade, rehabilitates orphaned and injured animals, and nurtures the next generation of African conservation leadership.
