With the project 400 girls and women victims of gender violence, including sexual abuse, will be benefied. They will be provided with legal advice and representation of specialized lawyers, psychosocial and financial support for seeking justice. 250 human rights promoters will benefit, providing training workshops for the prevention and eradication of gender violence in the Department of Matagalpa and its 13 rural municipalities, located in the northern zone of Nicaragua.
Matagalpa is located in the north of Nicaragua, the scene of the war of the 80s, where there is a social behavior that favors violence against women due to gender. 70% of the women in the area have suffered some type of violence, 28,500 crimes of gender-based violence are recorded per year, 30% are sexual crimes against children under 14, there are 63 femicides on average each year. Women are defenseless because of the lack of support from the State of Nicaragua.
The project will provide legal services, psychosocial and economic support to the victims and their families, to carry out legal proceedings against the aggressors. It will provide information mechanisms, non-formal education on protective factors against gender violence and sexual abuse, it will provide training to 250 volunteers, to support and accompany women and girls, when they are victims of gender violence, sexual abuse or any other another situation that violates their human rights.
The project will contribute to the prevention of gender violence towards 400 women and girls, favoring 400 families directly (about 2,400 people). It will contribute to the education of 250 volunteer promoters on the prevention and eradication of gender-based violence and contribute to an informed society on values that promote respect for human rights and promote gender equality.
