Small agribusinesses' access to financial services is a major challenge in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). While over 75 % of actors involved the agriculture value chain throught the country are women, their agri activities are often identied with "high risk "by banks and other investors. Lack of personalized database on small women agribusinesses and hard access to agricultural risks and best practices are part of the reasons why small agribusiness are not receiving financial support. As under the COVID-19 context food prouction has decreased and the cost of food is incrediblygrowing up in the DRC making it had for poor households to eat twice per day, AgroMwinda joined hands with Vision Fund DRC to empower 412 women members of 30 women agribusiness associations from Kinshasa Province on financial education and access agri loan access. This initiative implemted from August August 1 - September 30, 2021, was part of the Vision Fund DRC's UKAM project funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) aimed at strengthing local food production and advancing women financial autonomy and access to loans. After the training, the 412 empowered women were immediatly connected to our digital Agri Risks and Best Practices Information System and encouraged to submitt loan applications to acces funding from Vision Fund DRC. AgroMwinda is grateful to Vision Fund DRC for its colaboration and to all individuals who made donations to our COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience Fund through the Global Gining plateform. You can't imagine how big your donations are making the difference on the ground here in the DRC.
Since the third week of May 2021, Kinshasa (Republic Democratic Republic of Congo) is facing a new vague of COVID-19 with contamination figures never reached before. While the government is mobilizing resources and efforts to respond to this new challenge coupled with the recent Nyigongo Volcano eruption in Goma, AgroMwinda in collaboration the Vodacom Foundation and Smart Development Africa (SDA), has reinforced its COVID-19 prevention community awareness campaign through mobile technology. 900.000 SMS have by now been sent out through the AgroMwinda platform and 42500 household have been touched. The campaign also includes the distribution of face masks and other health packages. We are grateful to the donors who are supporting our campaign and would seek more support to prevent people and stop the spread of the virus in this country already defied by many years of war and other pandemic such Ebola.
Access to COVID- 19 prevention and recovery services are the major challenges to most poor families in the Democratic Republic of Congo as the government is struggling to available these crucial facilities during the ongoing second vague of the pandemic. The project beneficiairies asked us to kindly share their deepest sense of gratitude to each donor who empowered them via GlobalGiving.
