Aissa is a proud teacher in Yako in northern Burkina Faso. Following Aissa’s completion of her primary school teacher training, she passed government service exams and was assigned to her teaching post. Aissa teaches a third grade class of 64 students. Among the subjects she teaches are reading, arithmetic, biology, art, history, geography and singing. She takes very seriously her job of teaching her students and nurturing their development in the school environment.
Aissa comes from a family of eight children. Her father and mother are subsistence farmers.
Your generous donations to this project enable qualified young women like Aissa to fulfill their dreams of becoming teachers and role models for the next generation of rural children. Scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of academic success and promise, motivation to become teachers, maturity AND financial need. None of the young women supported by our scholarships – and thus your generous donations – would be able to pursue primary school teacher training without the support of a scholarship to pay for their school fees, lodging and food: at a cost of $1,540/student. To date, your generous donations have made it possible for 44 young qualified village women to pursue primary school teacher training. We are most grateful to you, our partners, in supporting scholarships for these young women. Our goal for the next school year is to be able to support primary school teacher training for 25 of the over 200 young women who apply for these scholarships each year. We need your help to achieve this goal.
Our sincere appreciation for your past and continuing support.
