2017 scholarship recipients in teacher training
On behalf of the young women in northern Burkina Faso who have benefitted from the generous donations of GlobalGiving donors in 2017, I want to thank you for your support for the postsecondary/training scholarships for these young women. Thanks to your donations, 12 young women who never dreamed of entering primary school at age six have enrolled this year in primary school teacher training. With over 200 qualified candidates each year, competition is keen for the scholarships that your donations provide. Major criteria for receiving a scholarship are academic performance and financial need. All of these young women come from subsistence farming families.
A special thanks to our recurrent donors for your continuing support. Your monthly donations provide the foundation for our scholarships. We encourage more of you to become monthly recurrent donors.
What does it cost for a young village woman to become a primary school teacher? The scholarships cost $1,540 for two years of primary school teacher training. This pays for school fees and materials, lodging, food and incidentals.
Of the 105 young women who have received our scholarships since 2010, all but one have completed their training and are teaching or are currently in training. Impressive: 99% success by bright, very motivated, hardworking and appreciative young women!
Once again, we thank you for your support in 2017, and we look forward to your continued support for the education of young village women in Burkina Faso.
We wish you all the best in 2018.
