Challenge

There are 25.8 million Americans living with diabetes, another 79 million people with pre-diabetes. If trends do not change, 1 in 3 children born in 2000 will have diabetes in their lifetime. Diabetes is the cause of 224,000 deaths each year and is the number one cause of blindness, kidney disease and amputations not caused by trauma.

Solution

Money raised at Step Out will be used for diabetes research, advocacy and education. As part of Step Out, we offer training walks to all participants. We encourage people to get active.

Long-Term Impact

We will encourage exercise and people with pre-diabetes (79 million Americans) can prevent or delay diabetes with 5-10% weight loss (if overweight) and 30 minutes of exercise 5 days per week. Money raised funds research, advocacy and education.
