Community Based Health Financing Insurance is a pre-paid health care system that will provide primary and preventative care, health education, and increasing access to quality health care services for poor families who can cannot afford medical care.
95% of rural families in Teso Region are living under extreme poverty and cannot afford modern healthcare. To finance healthcare 45% of families sell their land to finance the expensive health care services, which drives the family even further into poverty. 90% of families resort to traditional methods of health care and producing children as their greatest asset in these dire situations, comprehensive and Preventive Care, socio-economic and micro financing programs will solve.
Through Micro financing strategy issuing collateral -free interest loans, a mechanism for poverty reduction based on the principles of solidarity and mutual help; the resources of many individuals are pooled together to support those with low income levels, Equity fund will be introduced for less sickly members to pay for the medical bills of the most sickly and 80% will be empowered to undertake socio-economic activities to improve their livelihoods and social functioning.
This project will build sustainable community health systems among 20 model Community Based Health Financing Insurance Schemes to address chronic Poverty and poor health care services among 50,000 beneficiaries among women, youth, children, aged, men, HIV/AIDS groups and those with chronic illness like, diabetes, pressure, cancer and sickle cell, households with low incomes will have reduced catastrophic health expenditures, reduced incidences in the sale of domestic assets.
