Dear Friends,

This has been an interesting year.  Earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados in record proportions!!!  Nonetheless, Personal Ponies is well rooted after 27 years of service to children with special needs.   Although more funds were needed than ever before to support our volunteers and ponies, we are still reaching those that need us.  To summarize, a few projects that were funded by our Global Giving program are listed below.  This will give you an idea of what is needed and how you can help!

1.  Transport of two ponies from Idaho to Oregon to reach a child with Cerebal Palsy.  $400 was sent to help with health certificates for our ponies and transport costs to get the ponies to Oregon.

2. Gelding two young colts in Texas.  A long time volunteer sold her ranch due to financial struggles forcing her to return seven ponies to the program.  All seven will be placed with new volunteers in Texas but two young colts had to be gelded costing $500.

3. Gelding a wonderful stallion in Minnesota after one of our caretkers passed away from a year long struggle with brain cancer.  The family will carry on the program but will no longer breed and did not have the funds available after medical costs, etc.

4.  Getting two ponies ready for Christmas to surprise a young boy in two weeks!  Cost for health papers, etc $300

5.  Removing five ponies from a volunteer who has financial problems after a business closure.  Ponies need all their health records updated and cost of travel.  They are all in good new homes serving many children, mostly in Maryland.  The cost to assist and get everyone where they are going was $800.

THANK EACH AND EVER ONE OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP.  WE ARE A SMALL PROGRAM MAKING A DIFFERENCE ONE BY ONE.  WE ARE 100 PERCENT VOLUNTEER AND NO ONE IN THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION IS PAID A PENNY.  THIS MAKES YOUR HELP ALL THE MORE APPRECIATED AND NEEDED!!!!

DO WATCH OUR VIDEO BELOW.  IT WILL WARM YOUR HEARTS!

I hope you will consider us for your end of the year contributions and help us reach out to more children in 2012!

With Gratitude,

DENISE CHASIN

Hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts and more......All have presented us challenges that we have never faced before.  If it is not the economy we are talking about, it is the unusual weather that has us all wondering what is next in the face of change.

Personal Ponies is extremely grateful to Global Giving for having the opportunity to share our program with so many of its members and to be able to introduce what we do to people we would have never met without their support. As a result of our Global Giving donations, Personal Ponies has been able to provide much needed support to volunteers in our program.  Support comes in so many various colors...from help with transport, to help with storm clean up, to providing temporary funds for hay, etc.

Our program is entering its 27th year and for years upon years we have had a waiting list for people to have a pair of our ponies.  With the economy in the state it is in and various challenges presented by mother nature, we have had to support our volunteers more than in previous years.  Right now we have several ponies to relocate and find new volunteers to care for them.  The cost to bring them up to date with health papers and provide transport is very high.  Global Giving gives us a way to raise funds to be supportive and make sure our ponies get to their new families and serve their children.

Thank all of you have been willing to learn about our program and support us financially.  Please share our program with others and do visit us on facebook and join our fanpage.  http://www.facebook.com/PersonalPonies

Although the government insists that our economy is getting back on track and there are more jobs available and unemployment is easing, we have an inside look around the country into the lives of many of our volunteers who have been very much impacted by the poor state of the economy.  What we have seen over the past few months is more and more families that were holding on for the past few years, reach the end of their rope and are more and more in need of assistance.

Our program is 100 percent volunteer run which means whatever we do is done by volunteers, no big national office or any large bank accounts.  When we have volunteers in need of help and support, we all pitch in anyway we can to help or find new caretakers for our ponies.  Our program is very well rooted in the idea of caring ...caring for each other, our ponies and the children we serve.

Because we are an aware and savvy group of people, we have been making efforts the past few years to make sure we did less breeding and that our program did not expand at a rate that we could not support.   As a result, we have only had a few foals born this year and our breeding program has been on hold.   We have also found ways to do more fundraising (including this wonderful opportunity through Global Giving) to help with things like buying hay, paying travel costs, vet costs, and other costs associated with making sure our ponies are where they need to be and available to the children that need them.

In the past month or two, several of our long time volunteers needed to move their ponies due to financial challenges.  Some have found temporary homes for them until they are back on their feet and can care for them again and others have found new volunteers to promote the program or new families that were excited to have ponies for their children.  Thanks to our Global Giving contributions we have been able to help as needed.

We appreciate all our your support and want you to know how helpful this has been during this time.

Attached is a wonderful article from one of our volunteers in California who thought she was going to have to give up her ponies.   Enjoy!!

Talking to her Pony
Talking to her Pony

As our ponies across the country begin to shed their winter coats, we are all getting ready to prepare some of our ponies for new assignments.  This is the time of year that many of our new volunteer families and caretakers are getting ready to receive their ponies.  That means the funds we have received from our Global Giving donations will be used to help with this process.

In addition, we have provided funding for a couple of our Directors to travel this spring to our National Conference being held in Maryland.  We are very excited to be able to support some of their efforts in making their way across the country to be here in May.

This spring we are also working with a couple new potential breeding farms and will use the funds to move some of our very precious breeding stock to strategic locations around the country.  Our breeding program is very carefully determined and the heart of our future.

Lastly, there are a few placements that have been made over the winter (mostly in the warmer climates) and here is a blog entry from one of them http://thankyouillbehereallweek.blogspot.com/2011/03/first-ride.html

ENJOY AND THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT.  Our national program runs on a budget under $5000.  All of the money we receive in contributions is used to help the children and their ponies.  No one is paid a penny for their time and we never charge for our services.  Thank you for helping us continue to bring a little magic into the lives of children that are differently able.

If you have other ideas for us on raising funds or reaching more children, do write to us.  d_chasin@hotmail.com

$10
USD
Helps pay for feed and hay for a child's pony. Many times paying for pony care can be cost prohibitive and our national office tries to help. Providing money for feed and hay can make a difference.
$25
USD
Helps cover some of the yearly health costs for maintaining a child's pony. Veterinarian fees can be costly, especially given the costs a family faces for the care of a differently able child.
$50
USD
Pays part of transport costs for pony travel. Getting our ponies to the children that need them can be very costly. Transport is one of our biggest challenges
$100
USD
Provides funds for breeding costs for broodmare and foal care. Without volunteer breeders we have no future program. Breeders are in need of financial support at times especially for foaling.
$150
USD
Will cover the costs for a new family to purchase halters, leadlines, water buckets, grooming equipment, and saddles or driving equipment.
$200
USD
Pay the cost of gelding one of our young colts so that he can begin his life as a child's pony friend. All colts not in our breeding program are gelded at around 6 months of age.
$500
USD
Will help care for one of our retired ponies for one year. Retired ponies have given a life of service often need extra care and support. Retired ponies are treated with great care and appreciation.
$2,000
USD
Will be held in savings for emergency care for a pony whose family needs help. Economic conditions or personal situations require emergency financial support so a child can keep his or her ponies.
