Dear friends of PAAJAF,

A very warm welcome from the PAAJAF Educational Institute (PEI) and PAAJAF Foundation!  We are so proud God has ushered us into the new 2016-2017 school year, which starts this month of September 2016.

It is a great privilege to be the Head teacher of such a thriving school community where high aspirations and a caring family ethos are at the heart of what we do.

Excellent leadership at all levels promotes high expectations of pupils and staff, and this enables pupils to excel in all that they do.

We are in the first term of the new school year and this is an exciting time for our school following yet another year of exceptional achievements.

A Head teacher provides inspirational, high-quality leadership. I am here with our staff to ensure that the good standards of the school’s previous inspection have improved. The school’s ethos is for everyone to learn and to be the best they can be.

As our school vision, we want our pupils to achieve both high academic standards and personal goals in all of their endeavors, such as in sport, music or leadership skills, by building an educational centre in our community so that our children may go to school! We are creating a scholarship school for our children because of the limited public education available in our community. In addition to schooling, we provide our students with all of their needs including books, uniforms, school supplies and a nutritious meal twice a day.

“Working happily together inspiring a desire to learn” underpins all that we do and reflects the beliefs of the pupils, staff and governors here at our school. Collectively, we support our pupils’ aspirations and give them the skills and learning experiences to achieve them.

We welcome any visits to the school from prospective parents, donors and volunteers, so please feel free to contact us or to drop in and meet us! We hope our website as link to our project will provide you with further information about the school and our enthusiasm and philosophy for learning. If you need any further information, you can also contact us since we are happy here to answer all concerns.

We are fortunate to receive tremendous support from our supporters – UN Volunteers, GlobalGiving, MacEwan University Global Education Fund, Linino Organisation, Worldreader and The Church of Our Saviour and you our potential donor. The home-school partnership is one of exceptional importance to us as we firmly believe that this is the key to ensuring successful learning for our children here.

PEI has started the new school year with our 103 children in the school as at the close of the 2015 – 2016 school year- which ended on August 4, 2016. The problem PEI is facing at the moment is the lack of space to accommodate new students who have applied.  Also the PEI rented venue for the school expires on October 31, 2016 of which there is no fund to renew the contract.  We would like to appeal to you, if you could support us once again.  We need $8,000 to maintain the current venue. Would you please also help by forwarding this to your friends who you think can help for us? We really need your help and we will appreciate any way you can help us once again on this project. On September 21, GlobalGiving is running again a bonus day of which your donation to this project will be matched.  Kindly please read more about it at GG BONUS DAY.

On arrival at PEI, you immediately notice the excellent learning behaviour of our pupils and the passion, enthusiasm and friendliness of our staff. We believe that your children’s’ journey to learning is lifelong and we feel privileged that PEI School is where this very important journey begins.

Once again, thank you for your consideration.

Thank you

We are most grateful to all who have contributed to the success of the PEI program to date. The PAAJAF Educational Institute is an educational program created and administered by the PAAJAF Foundation.

The PEI program is an educational facility that creates an enabling environment in which children between the ages of 1 and 15 years old can develop their fullest human potential. The project includes a boarding house facility, recreational facilities and a solid educational, ethical and moral program to prepare students for their future life as active and responsible citizens. In the long-term, the PEI program aims to expand the project to University level.

For the year 2016, the project has a goal of reaching 64 children and 10 adults by the close of the period under consideration - December 2016. We locally in Ghana are proud to update our contributors and our visitors from the field about the status of PEI as of today June 17, 2016. Currently, the project is providing scholarship education to 100 children. The scholarships are rendered in the following way:

  • Full scholarship
  • Partial scholarship

To read more about the above scholarship categories, please visit this link: http://www.peischool.org/scholarships/

At the moment, we have 20 children who are receiving full scholarships and 80 children receiving partial scholarships. Our original goal was to provide 30 full scholarships and 34 partial scholarships.

Our current challenge

The lease of the school venue will expire in October 2016 and funds have not been allocated to rehire the building in order to maintain the school’s operations. The school is at a critical point of need, in which we require assistance to rehire the venue as well as to buy land to construct our own building for the school.   PEI currently needs USD$8,000.00 to maintain the school’s current venue for another two years. We need your help. Could you please share our story with your friends? Or, do you have any specific questions you wanted to ask about the PEI school program? If yes, please feel free to send us an email at info@peischool.org.

Thank you,

PAAJAF Team

PAAJAF school is which is PAAJAF Educational Institute (PEI) - our scholarship school - a multi-year project run with the Literacy Programme asanumbrella programme of PEI which provides Family Learning (Adult Education), After-school Programme, Library and IT training. The school has two streams of learning:

  • For Children
  • For Adults

For Children –PEI endeavors to establish aneducational facility that will create an enabling environment in which all children ages 6 months to 15 years can develop their full potential. The project includes a boarding house facility, recreational facilities and good moral training to equip all its students for life. It is the aim of this project to establish a University in the future.

For Adults – the purpose of setting up Family Learning Classes (adult literacy classes) is totackle the high level of adult illiteracy that traps families in extreme poverty. Our findings indicate that Gbawe has insufficient number of schools and to add to it, poverty prevents a significant number of people from completing their education. The resulting lack of education and skills makes it difficult for individuals to secure employment. PAAJAF has decided in this way to support the community to build adult capacity.

We are thankful to our partner GlobalGiving and Church of Our Saviour in Netherlands – an English Speaking Church that has sponsored the pre-school project. The achievements of this project up to date, were marvelous and credit goes to all our diverse donors. We are proud to announce that we are now have 80 students, the school was supporting 64 children at January 1, 2016, the student population as at January 1, 2015 was 20 students. Of the current student population, 20 students are receiving full scholarship and 60 students are receiving partial scholarship.   For Adults, PEI has 9 students currently receiving adult literacy education in English and in Basic Math.

The PEI centre was been rented for 2 years starting in November 2014, and the lease expires in October 2016. We need help to secure the venue at least for another one year or two, while we are working to secure funding to acquire school land to start the school building project.

Would you please help us? We need to raise $7000 to secure the school venue by October 2016. Please any amount makes a difference. We count on you.

Thank you

Philip

Wow our Generous and Impactful Donors,

We have been graced – God is bring us to the close of the year 2015 and to usher us into another impactful year – 2016. I am writing to thank you once again for your support of PAAJAF and the PAAJAF Educational Institute. We are so grateful to have you among our supporters! The project here at Globalgiving you have aided it to be successful and the impact as you see below is your doing.

As you know, our vision is to create an educational center in our community to provide our children with the opportunity to go to school.

We believe in our children and want them to have the opportunity to have an education, and create a secure and happy future for themselves.

It has been a busy year with lots of ups and downs of course but we are ending the year in a good position to build on our vision and meet the goals we have set for ourselves in 2016.

Here is what we have accomplished this year with your help!

  • 60 children are now enrolled in the preschool and truly enjoying a day of learning and growing.
  • 9 adults are learning to read or building on their reading ability in our Adult and Family Literacy classes.
  • We have two exciting and much-needed programs in the works:
    • WorldReader will provide e-readers and a digital library to the school and the Adult and Family Literacy program. For the program to go forward we will need to raise the funds to properly wire and outfit the classrooms.
    •  The Linino Organization has so generously funded our school by paying the rent on our building for two years, until October of 2016. It is our hope their offer of computers might be realized as well.
  •  We have created a second PAAJAF site to focus on the school at www.peischool.org which was created and funded by two US volunteers. The site is linked to our Global Giving page so that people can easily support the school and our children. A blog will help us keep our supporters up-to-date and reach out to new friends around the world.

I hope that as you celebrate Christmas this year you will consider making a gift of ongoing support to PEI and the children we serve. A recurring donation of as little as $10 per month would help us create a more secure financial base for the school.

With a base of ongoing support in 2016 we can cover our monthly rent, pay our teachers, work to build capacity, launch the e-reader and computer classes for our community, and reach more children through the Preschool and a Primary School.

Your support means so much to our staff and students. It shows them that there are good people who believe in them and their dreams of an education.

Please do you have and concerns? If yes, we will be more than happy to hear from you to be more impactful in 2016. We also welcome both online and project site volunteers if it interest you to get involve more in our cause.

We are very grateful to have you among the friends of PAAJAF and wish you and your family Happy Holidays!

With all good wishes,
Philip

Dear Supporter,

We are very pleased to tell you that we have ushered in a new school year once again.  Christpher and the other kids under the PAAJAF Sponsor A Child program would like to say a BIG THANK YOU! Because of your support they were able to go to school in the 2014/2015 school year.   As we are updating you on today, Thursday,  September 24, 2015, it is wonderful to see our child scholars almost always return to school with a new sense of wonder at the world, better understanding of global issues, fresh minds and an ignited passion for making a difference –since you have shown your care for them. It is wonderful again to be able to witness the change you are making from a distance.

The kids have just started a new school year, however only Christpher has got a sponsor for the 2015/2016 school year, we are most grateful to his sponsor Anna and other donors to our Kids.  Out of 12 scholars we sponsored in the 2014/2015 school year, only Christpher has got a sponsor at the moment for this 2015/2016 academic year.

It is sad news that some of our scholars have not got their fees, school supplies and lunch being paid.  As mentioned above, only Christpher who has got a sponsor and has got school fees, school supplies and lunch paid has return to school with hope that he could be successful stayed in school without missing a class. Yesterday 23 September 2015, we managed to make partial school fees payment for Erica, Vera, Judy, Sara and Modecai and negotiated with the respective schools to loan the mentioned kids with school supplies and lunch so that they could go to school and could not miss classes.    Sadly, Mary and Miriam had changed their school since we have no fund and that hasn’t been able to reach them.

Would you please help to promote this cause and look for sponsors and donations from your friends and networks so that we could pay the loans the schools have granted to our children and the those we have not reach them we could also support them?

Thank you
